the piece allows the user to switch between a philosophical text by wittgenstein (second image), or goethe's faust (first image). valence builds representations of the word usage in the german texts, which can then be visually compared against one another. visitors can watch as the structure changes as valence reads the text, or examine the structure through zooming and rotation. this piece was installed as part of ars electronica 2001 english and german descriptions from the ars electronica site
